Kenya has produced or been a location for film since the early 1950s, when Men Against the Sun was filmed in 1952. Kenya prides itself as one of the cities in Africa with qualified manpower and up to dated equipment in the Film industry.

Our country’s beaches, bustling capital, an abundance of readily accessible wildlife, traditional cultures and landscape diversity have made it the perfect cinematic setting for a range of productions attracting producers both within and internationally.

In terms of specific advice on filming Kenya, the first port of call should be the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) that was launched in 2006. KFC's mandate is to make Kenya a center of excellence in film production.

Due to the growing talents and skills in Filmmaking from youths in our Universities, Foxton Media is launching the "FOXTON FILM AWARDS: UNIVERSITY EDITION" for all the Universities in Kenya, whose theme will be "Security is my responsibility". Those who wish to enroll for the competition will create a short film relating to the theme.

The submission deadline date is 30th September 2021 after which the judges will review the short films from 1st October to 6th October 2021 to give a list of the nominees shortlisted for the awards. The FOXTON FILM AWARDS will be held on 13th October 2021 at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) main campus.


  1. 1. The short film should be a max of 7minutes.

  2. 2. Submission resolution of 1080p (16 × 9).

  3. 3. Submit the film alongside a Poster, Logline and Trailer.

  6. 6. Only Kenyan based university students are eligible.

  7. 7. Plagiarized content will be disqualified.

  8. 8. Content should not have been posted on any other platform.

  9. 9. Creator reserves the rights to their content.

The top five of the best films stand a chance to win an award.
